Cooties starts out with a clear, simple, and interesting idea: contaminated chicken nuggets, some kids, an elementary school, all leading up to a pseudo-zombie outbreak, and the teachers’ seemingly futile attempts to survive the madness. What could have been a mediocre, run-of-the-mill zombie movie turned out to be 88 minutes of pure horror and hysterics.
You see, when you get both the writer of SAW and the writer of Glee together, magic is bound to happen. Combine that with the perfect cast, (Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Nasim Pedrad, Jorge Garcia, and many others) and you’ve got nonstop laughter- with the perfect touch of horror.
Much of the comic gold throughout the movie comes from improvisation. From the line, “Follow me! I do CrossFit!” to Rainn Wilson trying to pronounce “dual rear wheel”, there is no end to the humor. I highly suggest that you pick this up to watch at home, preferably with as many buddies as possible to make thee fun even better.
