Being new to the Chicago area, there’s a lot that needs to be discovered place wise and food wise. One day while I was walking back to the train station on Bryn Mawr I noticed what I thought was a little shop of some kind. When I wandered into the little “shop” I was surprised to find a really creative, contemporary sushi and ramen restaurant. I had never had much of Japanese cultured food so I was a bit apprehensive but I was willing to give it a try.

An item that became one of my favorites is the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen which is a soup noodle  topped with Holland pork chashu and sesame oil which is very affordable.

Often times, when talking about Ramen people always go back in time to the Maruchan packaged ramen that you cook on the stove or in the microwave, but this ramen is quite different. Blowfish really breaks the idea of ramen into a flavorful, almost spicy taste that dances on the tongue. Accompanied by corn, sesame oil, and pork the portion is a great size for one.

Blowfish opened in March 2015 by brothers, Puje and Tuvshin Sukh. The chefs created an atmosphere in which they can focus on tightly executing cuisine and high personal service.

When first walking in, there is a refreshing feel as the restaurant’s atmosphere is innovative and distinctive. The decor is what really makes this place stand out and give it that refreshing feel from the low blue lighting, the warm orange walls to the Asian blossom painting that hangs on the wall.

The menu breaks food into different categories from appetizers, signature ramen, signature poke bowl, signature sushi rolls like the Fuji which is a spicy tuna. Blowfish also offers vegetarian options like veggie rolls, veggie bowls and desserts. The drinks range from a soft drink to hot green tea all around $2.

Overall, Blowfish is a great place to eat as it offers such a range of Japanese cultured food. I think it’s also conveniently placed as it’s one of the first shops when walking from the Bryn Mawr CTA Redline stop.

They also deliver/do store pick ups.  All of this can be reached M-Th 4PM-10PM, F 4PM-11PM, Sat 12PM-11PM, Sun 12PM-10PM.

Even though this was my first time going to Blowfish I will definitely be back to try something new! I give Blowfish 🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡 out 🐡🐡🐡🐡🐡.
